Miniature Fairy Garden

I've been wanting to try my hand at a fairy garden for a while now.  Michaels recently had a sale on the many new miniatures that recently came out so I decided to take the plunge. I've been looking at and researching miniatures on Pinterest and have been collecting various items and tchotchkes and here's what I came up with.  Hope you enjoy ...

Here's the entrance to the treehouse with a little place to have a seat and rest a bit. A schnauzer is keeping watch along the path leading to an arbor filled with ivy.  There's also a gazing ball and 2 Japanese men drinking sake.  This is a figurine that my husband bought a number of years ago on one of our antiquing jaunts.  He set them there when I began putting the garden together and they just stayed.  This planter will definitely be staying in the house as we wouldn't want them getting ruined by the elements.

Being a gardener myself, I had to have the watering can and the tools need to maintain and tend the garden.

Here's a better view of another side of the treehouse.  I wanted to go with a color scheme of blue, yellow and white and this treehouse fit the bill and I knew I just had to have it when I spotted it in the store.

Another angle of the entrance ... In the forefront you can notice some of the chicks & hens offshoots that I've place here and there in the planter as well.

I had this rosemary plant that I brought in the house at the end of the summer last year and it desperately needed to be divided.  Here's one of the branches that I tried to fashion into a tree (maybe a bonsai??)  I still think it needs more trimming but I'm waiting to make sure I haven't actually killed the plant and see how it adjusts to its new home.  The rest of the plant and the other 2 shoots are temporarily in another pot so I can see if they survive and how they are adjusting as well.

Here we're getting to the back of the container.  I always buy pansies in the Spring so I put 1 or 2 in here for a little bit more of the blue and yellow scheme I was looking for.

If you take a close look at the above photo and the one below you'll notice a tiny evergreen in the forefront.  Hubby told be that this one was sprouting along the fence behind the garbage can so I decided to rescue it.  We will see how this one does as well.

A wider view of the previous ...

Here is the back side now  There's what looks like a bare twig that you see at roof level which is actually a maple tree that was sprouting in the garden last year and that I had put in another pot last summer.  Hopefully, the buds will be opening soon and I will possible remove the artificial variegated shrub I placed here just to fill up the space some more.

Another view of the rosemary that I mentioned before. I also loved the bridge and just had to have it so I created a little stream with some blue glass pebbles  that everyone is familiar with.

Well that's about it for the fairy garden for now.  I'm very happy with the way it turned out!  Being that Holy Week in next week, I need to work on my Resurrection Garden.  I made one last year and hubby thought it turned out great and was a really good idea to keep our minds focused on what Easter is really all about.

Until next time ... Happy Gardening and Crafting!

The Garden

My garden has just been bursting this Spring.  Here are just some of the wonders from the past few weeks . . .

This is the Lilac 'Beauty of Moscow'  It's about 3 years now that I've had it and it's just over 6' tall.  The flowers are profuse and smell heavenly!

These little darlings are Japenese Anemone and are scattered throughout the front and back yard and are just so cute!

These iris are from a clump that my MIL gave me a couple of years back.  I think I'll have to divide them again this year.  Not sure of the actual variety but they are hardy and stay upright nicely.

This is the yellow Baptista which I've had for several years now.  I divided this last year to put some in a different section of the yard and the new plants are looking great as well!

This is 'Snow in Summer' another one of my favorites with tiny white flowers and silvery foliage.  Even after the blooms are gone . . . the foliage still looks great.

'Amethyst Falls' wisteria hanging over the arbor now in its 3rd of 4th year. (Not really sure)  looks stunning and smells wonderful!

Finally, the peonies are getting ready to open!  I love cutting these and bringing them inside for fresh flowers in the kitchen!

Hope you like my little Spring display.  Be back again soon!

Easter

I tried posting this a couple of weeks back and got side-tracked.  So I'm a little late . . . Spring is finally in the air here for real now as temps are climbing more and more each day.  Easter was a wonderful day celebrated with family and good food!

Here are some of my decorations:

An Easter bunny basket found a Pier 1 . . .

and the wreath on my front door . . .

I got some wonderful gift baskets for playing hostess, including more bulbs to plant in the garden!  Here's one with some pretty little jonquils . . .

and another with white tulips . . .

Finally, I had the crocus blooming in the garden already.  Although they were the only thing blooming at the time, they were beautiful!

Hope you all enjoyed your Easter.  Hope to be back again real soon!

Until next time . . .

Spring Garden

Slowly, I've been going through and cropping and sorting through the photos I took of my Spring garden.  I put together a digital collage of my faves for you . . .

The Spring garden was wonderful this year!  That's because last Fall, I actually ordered bulbs and planted them.  We moved into this house just over 8 years ago now and I've been working on creating a garden ever since.  Usually by mid- summer, I was too worn out to so working on any fall plantings just didn't happen.  The previous owners had left us with a small vegetable garden that was over-grown with weeds.  The rest of the backyard was all grass.

Within the first couple of years, we had dug a bed or two and had a pavered patio installed.  Each and every year, I would extend the garden space and it just keeps growing.  My hubby jokes that soon we won't have any grass at all!  Well . . . at least he has all the grass in the front of the house still.  Although . . . since the wall for the flower bed is falling down, I was hoping to tackle that project soon as well.  So I just might be taking more of his precious grass away again!  But, I think that's one project that can wait 'til next year!

I did plant some peonies too, but I didn't stake them well enough and the stems just cracked under the weight of the blooms.  So I cut them all the way down and put them in a bowl . . .

I thought they looked so beautiful and the smell was just heavenly!  Hopefully, I will have enough energy to plant some more bulbs and peonies again this Fall.  They are so worth the time and effort in creating a Happy Spring.

I hope you've enjoyed this little stroll in my garden.  Until next time . . .

Spring Heart Wreath

I made this wreath a couple of months back and just had to post a photo of it before I take it down.  I usually opt for a wreath that is round, but I love the way this heart one turned out.  Since its almost July, I've been wanting to make a new Summer themed one, but alas this one will have to remain for now unless I can find some time this weekend to make the new one.

Hope you like it!
